Collagen supplements put to the test: which one boosts Body's own collagen best?
NCT ID NCT05427279
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looked at how different collagen supplements with vitamin C affect collagen production after exercise. Twenty healthy adults took either hydrolyzed collagen, a vegan collagen (PrimaColl), whey protein, or a placebo before doing short jump rope sessions three times in 24 hours. Researchers measured a marker of collagen synthesis in the blood to compare the supplements' effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
hydrolyzed collagen, PrimaColl (vegan collagen), whey protein, or placebo (maltodextrin) each with 50 mg vitamin C
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help clarify which supplement best supports collagen production after exercise, potentially guiding nutrition advice for joint and tissue health.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-stage study with only 20 healthy participants. Results may not apply to older adults or people with injuries. The collagen synthesis is measured indirectly, so real-world benefits remain uncertain.
