Belly fat may predict heart rhythm problems after bypass surgery

Summary
This study will check if the amount of deep belly fat (visceral fat) measured before heart bypass surgery is linked to a higher chance of developing atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat) after the operation. Researchers will use ultrasound to measure belly fat in 300 adults scheduled for elective bypass surgery. The goal is to better understand risk factors, not to test a new treatment.
