Virtual reality mirror therapy shows promise for stroke rehab
NCT ID NCT07139379
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests whether a new virtual reality therapy that combines mirror therapy with cooperative tasks can improve arm movement in people who had a stroke at least six months ago. Forty-four participants will be split into groups receiving either standard task-oriented training, VR mirror therapy, or the new VR cooperative mirror therapy. The main goal is to see if the new approach leads to better motor function and brain activity changes.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Virtual reality mirror therapy
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a more effective, engaging way to improve arm movement and reduce muscle stiffness in stroke survivors.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 44 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The therapy is an add-on to standard rehab, not a standalone cure.
