Virtual reality headsets may ease ICU discomfort after major surgery

NCT ID NCT06830369

First seen Nov 18, 2025 · Last updated Jun 18, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study tests whether using a virtual reality program (HypnoVR®) twice a day can reduce discomfort for patients in the surgical intensive care unit after major heart, lung, or abdominal surgery. About 194 adults will be randomly assigned to either receive VR sessions plus standard care or standard care alone. The main goal is to see if VR improves overall comfort, as measured by a validated questionnaire, and also to check effects on pain, anxiety, thirst, and sleep.
