First seen Jan 03, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study tests whether using a virtual reality headset can lower pain and anxiety during chest tube removal after open-heart surgery. Sixty adult patients will be randomly assigned to either watch a VR video for five minutes before and during the procedure or receive standard care. Pain levels will be measured before, right after, and 20 minutes after removal, and anxiety will be checked before and 20 minutes after. The goal is to see if this simple, drug-free distraction technique improves the patient experience.
