New study aims to boost First-Attempt intubation success in the field

NCT ID NCT07630467

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This pilot study tests whether using a video laryngoscope (a camera-equipped breathing tube device) helps doctors successfully intubate patients on the first try during emergencies outside the hospital. About 143 adults needing emergency intubation will be included. The goal is to measure success rates and identify factors like patient condition, doctor experience, and environment that affect outcomes.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Video laryngoscopy device (AirTraq)

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could provide evidence that video laryngoscopy improves first-attempt intubation success in pre-hospital emergencies, potentially leading to updated guidelines and better patient outcomes.

What could go wrong

This is a small, single-center pilot study with no control group, so results may not apply broadly. The expected success rate is only 74%, and real-world conditions could lower it further.
