Blood test may spare thousands from unnecessary brain scans

NCT ID NCT06449183

First seen Mar 08, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study tested a new blood test (VIDAS TBI) in 903 adults with mild traumatic brain injury (GCS 13-15) to see if it can accurately detect brain damage. The goal is to reduce the need for CT scans, which are costly and expose patients to radiation. The test measures two proteins released after brain injury and could help doctors quickly decide who needs a scan and who can go home safely.
