Can a Machine's 'Sigh' unlock better breathing for ICU patients?

NCT ID NCT07172061

Summary

This study tested a new method to help doctors fine-tune ventilator settings for critically ill patients. Researchers wanted to see if a special, deep 'sigh' breath programmed into the ventilator could provide a clearer picture of how stiff or flexible a patient's lungs are. This information could help doctors decide the best air pressure to use, potentially making breathing easier and safer for 110 adults on ventilator support.
