Better tube monitoring could cut ICU pneumonia risk

NCT ID NCT07423208

Summary

This study tested whether continuous, automatic monitoring of breathing tube pressure works better than manual checks every 8 hours to prevent pneumonia in ICU patients on ventilators. Researchers followed 40 patients with severe head injuries for up to 7 days to see which method resulted in fewer pneumonia cases. Both groups received standard pneumonia prevention measures and antibiotics according to hospital protocol.
