Doctors test quicker way to gauge breathing struggle in ICU

NCT ID NCT05952726

Summary

This study aimed to see if a simple measurement from a ventilator screen (called PMI) could reliably estimate how hard a patient is working to breathe while on a breathing machine. Researchers tested this in 24 critically ill adults with respiratory failure by comparing the simple ventilator reading to the current, more complex method that requires a special tube. The goal was to find easier ways for doctors to monitor patient effort and adjust ventilator settings safely.
