Gentle breathing during surgery may protect the mind

NCT ID NCT06752421

Summary

This study tested whether using a gentle, low-volume breathing technique during heart surgery could reduce the risk of post-surgery delirium, a common and serious type of confusion. Researchers compared this technique to stopping breathing entirely during a specific part of the operation in 130 patients. They measured how many patients developed delirium, how long they stayed in intensive care, and their recovery rates over 30 days.
