New trial aims to match AML patients with best drug combo
NCT ID NCT06635681
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This phase 2 trial tests whether adding venetoclax to standard intensive chemotherapy improves outcomes for adults with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The study will enroll 380 patients aged 14 to 60 to see which genetic subtypes benefit most. Researchers hope to personalize treatment based on genetic markers.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Venetoclax combined with daunorubicin, cytarabine, and azacitidine
What this could lead to
If successful, this could identify which genetic types of AML respond best to adding venetoclax to standard chemo, leading to more personalized treatment.
What could go wrong
This is a phase 2 single-arm trial, so results are preliminary and may not confirm benefit. Side effects from intensive chemo plus venetoclax could be significant.
