Experimental drug duo takes on tough leukemia
NCT ID NCT05597306
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This early-stage trial is testing a combination of two oral drugs—bomedemstat and venetoclax—in adults whose acute myeloid leukemia (AML) has returned or not responded to standard treatment. The main goal is to find the safest dose and check for side effects. Up to 18 participants will take the drugs daily, and researchers will also watch for signs that the leukemia is shrinking.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
bomedemstat and venetoclax
What this could lead to
If this combination proves safe and effective, it could offer a new treatment option for people with hard-to-treat acute myeloid leukemia.
What could go wrong
This is a very early (Phase 1) trial with only 18 participants, so it is primarily testing safety and dosing. The drug combination may not work well or could cause serious side effects.
