Simpler fluid monitor tested in heart surgery
NCT ID NCT06822361
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looked at 55 adults having beating-heart coronary bypass surgery. Doctors compared a standard ultrasound method (TEE) with a less invasive monitor that uses the arterial line to see how well each predicted the need for extra fluids. The goal was to see if the simpler device could replace the ultrasound for guiding fluid therapy during surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors use a simpler, less invasive tool to guide fluid management during heart surgery, potentially improving patient outcomes.
What could go wrong
This was a small, completed observational study, not a treatment trial. The findings may not apply to all heart surgery patients or settings.
