Zap your neck, sharpen your mind? new study tests nerve stimulation in vapers
NCT ID NCT06804109
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether a mild electrical stimulation of the vagus nerve in the neck can improve attention and thinking in young adults who vape. 100 healthy volunteers aged 18-25 who currently or previously used e-cigarettes will receive either real or fake stimulation, then take three cognitive tests. The goal is to understand if this device can help counteract any mental fogginess linked to vaping.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation (nVNS) device
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a way to help vapers think more clearly.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study focused on short-term cognitive tests, not health outcomes. The effect may be small or not last.
