New questionnaire aims to stop dentists from mistaking facial nerve pain for toothache

NCT ID NCT07453511

First seen Mar 10, 2026 · Last updated Apr 25, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study tests a new questionnaire designed to help dentists and doctors identify trigeminal neuralgia, a condition that causes sudden electric-shock-like pain in the face. The pain is often mistaken for a tooth problem, leading to unnecessary dental treatments. About 250 adults with facial pain will fill out the questionnaire before their specialist appointment, and researchers will compare the results with the final diagnosis to see how accurate the tool is.
