First seen Apr 24, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study tested a new rule to help doctors tell which children with fever and low white blood cells after chemotherapy are at risk for a serious infection. About 1900 children aged 1 to 18 with cancer or blood disorders took part. The goal was to see if the rule works well in many hospitals, so doctors can better decide who needs strong antibiotics and who can be watched more safely.
