New study finds safe dose of herpes drug for newborns

Summary
This study tested an oral herpes drug, valacyclovir, in 17 newborns whose mothers had genital herpes. The goal was to find a dose that gives the same drug levels in the blood as the standard IV treatment. The results help doctors know how to safely give this medicine by mouth to prevent or treat herpes in babies.
