First seen Jan 24, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 16 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a common antiviral drug, valacyclovir, can reduce severe mouth sores caused by radiation therapy for head and neck cancer. About 84 adults will be randomly assigned to receive either valacyclovir or a placebo during their treatment. Researchers will monitor mouth sores, pain levels, and the presence of herpes viruses to see if the drug helps.
