Can a common antiviral pill ease the agony of cancer treatment mouth sores?

NCT ID NCT07363031

Summary

This study is testing if a drug called valacyclovir can prevent or reduce severe mouth sores in people getting radiation treatment for head and neck cancer. Researchers also want to understand if certain common viruses play a role in causing these sores. About 84 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the antiviral drug or a placebo pill during their radiotherapy.
