Ear-Zapping device could help teens with cerebral palsy
NCT ID NCT07394608
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This small safety trial tests whether a non-invasive device that stimulates the vagus nerve through the ear can safely improve hand and arm function in 10 adolescents with spastic cerebral palsy. Participants will use the device during upper limb rehabilitation sessions. The main goal is to check for side effects and see if the therapy is feasible.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
non-invasive transauricular vagus nerve stimulation device (Vagustim)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a safe, drug-free way to improve hand and arm function in adolescents with cerebral palsy.
What could go wrong
This is a very early, small safety trial with only 10 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The device may not improve motor function at all.
