Scientists test if a 'Nerve Zap' and a milkshake can rewire fear and motivation

NCT ID NCT07476469

Summary

This study aims to understand how symptoms of anxiety and anhedonia (loss of pleasure) affect how people learn from rewards and punishments and make decisions under threat. Researchers will test if a non-invasive device that stimulates a nerve in the ear (tVNS) and a caloric drink can shift this decision-making balance. About 104 participants, including healthy individuals and those with high anxiety or anhedonia symptoms, will complete online tasks and lab sessions involving brain scans and a virtual reality foraging game.
