First seen Apr 04, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study tested if using the vagus nerve to guide robotic surgery for removing the spleen and disconnecting certain blood vessels could reduce digestive problems like diarrhea and slow stomach emptying. Sixty adults with cirrhosis, an enlarged spleen, and bleeding from high blood pressure in the portal vein took part. The goal was to see if the nerve-guided approach led to fewer complications and better quality of life compared to the standard robotic method.
