Vaginal packing after pelvic surgery: unnecessary pain?

NCT ID NCT02943525

First seen Apr 01, 2026 · Last updated May 07, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study looked at whether placing a gauze pack inside the vagina after laparoscopic surgery for pelvic organ prolapse helps or causes more discomfort. 253 women were randomly assigned to receive packing or not. Researchers measured pain, satisfaction, and complications shortly after surgery and again one year later. The goal was to see if packing is truly beneficial or just adds to patient discomfort.
