Can fixing a nerve calm HIV inflammation? new study investigates

NCT ID NCT04353778

First seen Feb 20, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study looks at how problems with the vagus nerve (a key nerve connecting the brain and gut) might lead to gut issues and inflammation in people with HIV. Researchers will measure gut function and inflammation in 207 adults with HIV. They will also test if a drug called pyridostigmine or nerve stimulation can help. The goal is to understand these pathways, not to cure HIV.
