New UTI study asks: can a simple salt ease pain without antibiotics?

NCT ID NCT07202832

Summary

This study aims to see if making urine less acidic with potassium citrate can relieve the painful, urgent symptoms of a bladder infection as effectively as a standard antibiotic. It will involve 50 women aged 18-50 with uncomplicated UTIs. Researchers will compare symptom relief and urine test results after 7 days of treatment with either potassium citrate or the antibiotic nitrofurantoin.
