Simple scar removal during repeat c-section may prevent future womb damage

NCT ID NCT07228858

First seen Nov 16, 2025 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study tested a simple change during repeat cesarean deliveries: removing the old scar from the uterus before closing the new incision. The goal was to see if this reduces the formation of a uterine niche, a small defect that can cause bleeding, pain, and fertility issues. The trial involved 170 women who had at least one prior C-section and were having another. Results showed that scar removal lowered the chance of niche formation without increasing surgery time or blood loss.
