Pee test could replace some painful bladder checks for cancer patients

NCT ID NCT07187063

First seen Jun 26, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study is testing whether a simple urine test that looks for tumor DNA can help some bladder cancer patients safely have fewer cystoscopy exams. Cystoscopy involves inserting a camera into the bladder and can be uncomfortable. The trial will enroll 56 high-risk patients who have already completed initial treatment. Half will follow standard surveillance, while the other half will use the urine test to guide how often they need cystoscopy. The goal is to see if the urine test can reliably detect recurrences so that patients can avoid unnecessary procedures.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
UroAmp urine tumor DNA test
What this could lead to
If successful, this could allow some bladder cancer patients to have fewer invasive cystoscopy procedures while still catching recurrences early.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study with only 56 participants. The urine test may miss some recurrences, and results may not apply to all bladder cancer patients.
