First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study tests whether potassium citrate, a urine alkalinizer, can relieve painful urination, urgency, and frequency in women aged 18-50 with uncomplicated UTIs. Fifty participants will take either potassium citrate or the antibiotic nitrofurantoin for 7 days. Researchers will compare symptom scores and urine culture results to see if alkalinization works as well as antibiotics.
