Simple additive could make emergency kidney dialysis safer

NCT ID NCT06366230

Summary

This study is testing if adding a small amount of urea (a natural waste product) to the dialysis fluid can prevent a dangerous brain swelling condition in kidney failure patients. These patients need urgent dialysis to fix life-threatening potassium or acid levels, but rapid treatment itself can cause harm. Researchers will closely monitor 20 patients to see if this method safely allows the needed treatment without causing neurological side effects.
