Simple blood test may replace complex machines for septic shock care
NCT ID NCT07412366
First seen Feb 21, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 12 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a simple blood test (urea-to-creatinine ratio) can help doctors track how the body's metabolism changes in patients with septic shock. Septic shock causes the body to break down protein too fast, and knowing when this changes could guide better nutrition. The study will compare this blood test to a special machine that measures energy use, in about 40 adults on breathing machines in the ICU.
