Can AI-powered alerts prevent kidney failure? new study tests targeted approach

NCT ID NCT02786277

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tested a new way to send alerts to doctors when a patient develops acute kidney injury (AKI). Instead of alerting for every case, researchers used a computer model to identify which patients would benefit most from the warning. Over 2,000 adults with AKI took part. The goal was to see if targeted alerts could reduce the chance of kidney damage getting worse, needing dialysis, or death.
