Scientists investigate real vs. feigned multiple personalities
NCT ID NCT07663890
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), where a person may feel they have multiple identities. Researchers will interview 60 people—some with diagnosed DID and others simulating symptoms—to understand what triggers identity shifts and how they feel. The goal is to improve care and better tell apart genuine cases from faked ones.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help doctors better understand DID and distinguish genuine cases from simulated ones, leading to improved care.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study with only 60 participants, so findings may not apply to everyone with DID. It aims to gather knowledge, not test a treatment.
