Scientists probe deadly immune storm in sepsis patients

NCT ID NCT03721809

Summary

This study aimed to understand why some sepsis patients develop a dangerous immune system overreaction called macrophage activation syndrome, which has a high death rate. Researchers compared blood samples from 27 intensive care patients with this condition to those with regular sepsis. The goal was to identify specific immune signals that could lead to safer, targeted treatments instead of risky general immunosuppression.
