NCT ID NCT07435571

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether a piece of human umbilical cord membrane can be used as a cushion in the thumb joint to treat arthritis. About 22 people with thumb arthritis who haven't improved with standard care will receive the implant during surgery. Researchers will track pain, thumb movement, and grip strength for a year to see if it helps.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

human umbilical cord amniotic membrane allograft (SclerFIX)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a new surgical option to reduce pain and improve thumb function for people with thumb arthritis.

What could go wrong

This is a very small early-phase trial with only 22 people, so results may not apply widely. The implant is new and its safety and effectiveness are not yet proven.
