Can a simple scan replace expert judgment for feeding tube decisions?
NCT ID NCT06877897
Summary
This study is testing whether a simple ultrasound scan of the throat is as good as a trained swallowing therapist at deciding when it's safe to remove a feeding tube. It involves 150 adults who are recovering from illness and still have a feeding tube. Researchers will compare how often tubes are successfully removed and whether patients have problems like choking or pneumonia based on which method is used to make the decision.
