Ultrasound vs. speech therapists: Who's better at tube removal?
NCT ID NCT06877897
First seen Jan 08, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 19 times
Summary
This study compares two methods for deciding when to remove a nasogastric (feeding) tube in adults who have trouble swallowing after an acute illness. One method uses an ultrasound to measure throat movement, and the other relies on a speech-language pathologist's clinical judgment. Researchers will see if the ultrasound is just as accurate or better at guiding safe tube removal.
