Summary
This study aims to see if a fast, bedside ultrasound performed by an emergency doctor can safely rule out a small bowel obstruction (a blockage in the intestines). If successful, this could help many patients avoid an unnecessary CT scan, which involves radiation, higher costs, and longer emergency room stays. The research will involve 667 emergency room patients with symptoms of a blockage but who are deemed at low or moderate risk by their doctor.
