Ultrasound helps doctors draw blood faster in shock patients

NCT ID NCT07362628

First seen Feb 01, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tested whether using ultrasound to guide a needle into the wrist artery works better than the usual method of feeling for the pulse in emergency patients with shock. 100 adults with shock were randomly assigned to either ultrasound guidance or the traditional palpation technique. The researchers measured how often the first attempt succeeded, how many tries were needed, and the time to get a blood sample.
