Womb scar ultrasound could guide safer births after C-Section

NCT ID NCT01916044

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 34 times

Summary

This study tested whether using an ultrasound to measure the thickness of the womb scar can help women who have had a previous C-section decide whether to attempt a vaginal birth. The goal was to reduce the risk of uterine rupture and other serious complications for both mother and baby. About 3,000 pregnant women with one prior C-section took part, and the ultrasound results were used alongside a decision rule to guide delivery choices.
