Ultrasound may replace breathing tube measurements for ICU patients

Summary
This study tests if ultrasound images of the diaphragm can reliably estimate how hard a patient is working to breathe. Currently, a standard test (P0.1) works only in intubated patients, but ultrasound could work for those on non-invasive ventilation or high-flow oxygen. Researchers will compare ultrasound measurements with the standard test in 40 intubated adults during a spontaneous breathing trial.
