Sound waves could spot gum disease early

NCT ID NCT05809427

First seen May 08, 2026 · Last updated Jun 12, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study tested a new high-frequency ultrasound probe to see if it can measure gum pocket depth as accurately as the standard manual probing method for diagnosing periodontal disease. Thirty-nine adults participated, and researchers compared measurements from both methods. The goal is to provide a less painful and more detailed way to catch gum disease early.
