Sound waves open Brain's shield to attack deadly tumor

NCT ID NCT04417088

Summary

This study tested whether a special focused ultrasound device could safely and temporarily open the protective blood-brain barrier in people with recurrent glioblastoma, a very aggressive brain cancer. The goal was to see if opening this barrier would help the chemotherapy drug carboplatin reach the tumor more effectively. Researchers enrolled 28 adults whose cancer had returned after initial treatment to undergo up to six ultrasound procedures alongside their chemotherapy.
