New ultrasound model aims to spot dangerous placenta condition before delivery

NCT ID NCT07236060

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study will test whether detailed 2D and 3D ultrasound scans can accurately tell the difference between two serious pregnancy complications: placenta accreta spectrum and uterine scar dehiscence. Researchers will scan 50 women in their third trimester who have a low-lying placenta and a history of C-section. The goal is to create a diagnostic model that helps doctors plan safer deliveries and avoid emergencies.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

2D/3D ultrasound doppler

What this could lead to

If successful, this could give doctors a reliable, non-invasive way to tell apart two serious pregnancy complications before delivery, helping them prepare the right surgical team and reduce risks.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study (50 participants) that hasn't started recruiting yet. The ultrasound model may not be accurate enough to replace current methods, and results may not apply to all hospitals or patients.
