Longer IVs may mean fewer sticks for cancer patients in ER
NCT ID NCT06217783
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether using a longer IV catheter, placed with ultrasound guidance, can reduce the chance of failure in cancer patients who need IV access in the emergency department. About 400 adults with difficult veins who are expected to stay in the hospital for more than 48 hours will be randomly assigned to get either a standard-length or longer catheter. The goal is to find out which length works better and is safer, helping to improve comfort and reduce repeated needle sticks.
