First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tests whether a numbing injection near the breastbone, given before heart surgery, can reduce the amount of strong painkillers (opioids) needed during the operation. The goal is to better control pain and lower side effects like nausea or slow breathing. About 80 adults having planned heart surgery will take part, with half receiving the injection plus standard anesthesia and half receiving standard anesthesia alone.
