Eye scan could warn of spinal tap headaches

NCT ID NCT07100158

Summary

This study tested if a simple, painless ultrasound scan of the eye could help predict which patients might get a specific type of headache after spinal anesthesia for knee replacement surgery. Researchers measured the optic nerve sheath in 176 patients before and after their procedure to see if changes were linked to headache development and severity. The goal was to find a quick, non-invasive way to identify patients at risk for this uncomfortable side effect.
