Ultrasound might replace X-Rays for Kids' elbow injuries
NCT ID NCT07429344
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether ultrasound can reliably detect broken bones in the elbow of children aged 5 to 15 after an accident. About 543 kids will get both an ultrasound and standard X-rays, and researchers will compare the results. If ultrasound proves accurate, it could offer a faster, radiation-free way to screen for fractures.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, ultrasound could become a quick, radiation-free first step to check for elbow fractures in children, reducing the need for X-rays.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. Ultrasound may miss some fractures, and results may not apply to all settings or ages.
