Sound waves awaken the brain: ultrasound trial offers hope for coma recovery
NCT ID NCT06939348
Summary
This study is testing whether focused ultrasound directed at a deep brain area called the thalamus can help patients recover consciousness after severe traumatic brain injury. Researchers will compare real ultrasound treatment to a sham (fake) procedure in 60 patients who have been in a disorder of consciousness for more than 28 days. The goal is to see if this non-invasive approach can safely improve awareness and function in these severely injured patients.
