Scientists zap anxiety brain circuits with sound waves in groundbreaking test

NCT ID NCT06273904

Summary

This study is investigating whether a non-invasive technology called transcranial focused ultrasound (tFUS) can temporarily change activity in deep brain areas involved in anxiety. Researchers are recruiting 40 people who recently started treatment for anxiety to complete tasks and brain measurements before and after receiving either active or inactive tFUS. The goal is to understand if this technology could one day help improve therapy by targeting the brain's fear and avoidance circuits, but this study itself is not a treatment.
